About the Artist
For nearly 20 years, Mark Mueller has been captivating viewers and collectors with his life-like paintings of the natural world. Working primarily in acrylics, he specializes in capturing the beauty of North American wildlife - especially birds of the northeast. Perhaps best known for his rendering of water, his meticulously detailed paintings have gained him national recognition.

Mark was born on December 21, 1967 and grew up in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. A self-taught artist, he began drawing and painting at a very young age. His love for nature and the outdoors developed throughout his childhood, as was told by his drawings of birds and fish. It wasn't until his early twenties however that he would consider painting animals and nature as a career.

In 1990, he graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration. While in his senior year at Syracuse, he visited a wildlife art gallery and saw works by Carl Brenders, Robert Batemen and John Seery-Lester. He was so inspired that he knew from that point he wanted to be a wildlife artist. He sold his first painting of a brown trout later that same year. Since then he has been painting wildlife professionally.

Mark has exhibited his work in the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, SC., Decoy and Gunning Show in Tuckerton, NJ, the Somerset County Wildlife Art and Carving Show in Basking Ridge, NJ. and the Wings and Water Festival in Stone Harbor, NJ. to name a few. His work has garnered many awards and "Honorable Mentions". His painting "Splash of Color - Brook Trout" was judged "First Place for Wildlife" at the Wings and Water Festival in 1994.

Also in 1994, Mark won the 1994-95 Nevada Duck Stamp Contest. Since then has placed in the top 10 of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest twice (5th Place, 1995; 6th Place, 1997). His entry in the 1998 contest also placed in the top 25. He has also been a finalist in many other state Duck Stamp contests.

In 2006, Mark was elected as a member of the Society of Animal Artists. His painting "On the Rocks - Loon" was selected as part of the SAA 46th Annual Exhibition in Bennington Vermont.

Mark currently lives in Ogdensburg, New Jersey with his wife and three sons. When he isn´t behind the easel, he enjoys spending time with his family and teaching his sons about wildlife, nature and fishing.
